Rav Yisrael Zeev Gustman

HaGaon Rav Yisrael Zeev Gustman was a close Talmid of Rav Shimon Shkop in Grodno and at the age of 19 he became the youngest Dayan on the Bes Din of Rav Chaim Ozer Grodzenski in Vilna. After terrible suffering in WWII he immigrated to the USA and became the Rosh Yeshiva of the central Yeshiva Gedola of Habad in Crown Heights. In 1951 he reopened the new Yeshivat Ramailes (Vilna) in New York. In 1971 he made Aliyah, together with his Yeshiva to Rechavia Yerushalayim. Rav Gutman was a unique figure in the Torah world and many other Roshei Yeshiva sought his advice and counsel. His renowned weekly Sheur Klali attracted Talmidei Hachamim from all over Yeushalayim. His printed Sheurim are called Kuntresei Sheurim on Masechtot of Nashim and Nezikin.
